Dear John is a documentary about the closure of Welland Ontario’s oldest and leading industrial employer; John Deere Welland Works, located in Dain City. The announcement came September 2nd 2008, when a representative from Deere & Company arrived in Welland to tell the workers that effective November 2009, Welland Works would be closing its doors. Centered on the circumstances that caused such an event the film entitled "Dear John" looks at the current recession, the forces behind the closure, and what a community struggling to stay afloat can do. With visits to St. Thomas Ontario, Windsor Ontario, Flint Michigan, and the headquarters of Deere & Company in Moline Illinois; Dear John director Mark Lammert and his crew try to explore what Welland has in store for its future, while helping those that worked at the plant tell their story.
